Stonehenge, located in Wiltshire, England, is one of the most fascinating and fabulous megalithic monuments in the world. It is made of large sandstone stones weighing up to 25 tonnes, recently identified as coming from the West Woods, located 25 to 30 kilometres north of the monument.
This is a very important tourist complex that clearly needs to be protected from vandalism in order to ensure its perfect preservation for as long as possible.
So, in early 2013, Wessex Fire and Security was responsible for project managing the supply, installation and commissioning of the fire and security systems for the new Stonehenge visitor centre. Three buildings comprised the new Stonehenge facility: the main visitor centre, an ancillary building (for all plant, vehicles and machinery) and a security centre/post (the old visitor centre).
Stonehenge required a sophisticated, high-end perimeter detection and security system.
GJD worked closely with Wessex Fire and Security to manufacture and install the new security system for the Stonehenge site.
The use of GJD’s Clarius® infrared LED illuminators fulfilled an important requirement for the project, as verification of the process was carried out using a video analysis system. It was therefore necessary to separate the cameras from the infrared sources to minimise the attraction of the insects to the cameras. Different alternatives were studied and finally GJD was chosen because of its quality and previous experience.
Stonehenge required a sophisticated, high-end perimeter detection & security system and Clarius infrared illuminators were perfect for these needs as they work in conjunction with black and white cameras, day and night, providing a light that is invisible to the human eye, but fully visible to the CCTV camera.
