It is a well know fact that summer is a hot time for burglaries. They usually start to increase in June and peak in July and August. During these months main residences are more exposed to break-ins, burglaries and robberies, because they usually become more vulnerable. Whereas in the case of second homes, those in rural areas are always highly vulnerable, especially in less populated areas.

As perimeter security professionals, we are well aware of the requirements of good perimeter detection. For residential use we recommend Bunker Security’s beam towers, concealed and camouflaged in lampposts and garden lights. These towers are designed in different formats, and we can deliver them separately or in combination with the most durable beams on the market, TAKEX beams. We can even deliver them pre-configured and pre-wired with the desired combinations of beams adapted (easyPack family from Bunker Seguridad).

Photoelectric Beams

The different models of infrared perimeter beams are perfectly compatible with each other, with an optimal result both aesthetically and functionally. Many combinations and configurations can be made, including among models from the residential and the industrial ranges, when necessary.

Urban security involves tackling burglary, theft, vandalism and the most effective way to do this is through early detection and deterrence.

Over many years, TAKEX has successfully designed, perfected and verified the performance of its infrared barriers. Strict quality control and rigorous testing, applied at every stage of production, ensure that all TAKEX products have a hard-to-beat lifetime. In addition, thanks to the combination of a double modulated beam with a tuning amplifier and Phase Locked Loop (PLL) system, photoelectric beam sensors designed and manufactures by TAKEX provide complete perimeter protection like no other.

Video analytics for perimeter detection

Although more and more video surveillance cameras are being installed in neighbourhoods and municipalities, sometimes the only function they are used for is to record assaults or burglaries that occur. However, it is always better to prevent crime, and to achieve this, intelligent video analysis can be added to video surveillance systems and combined with intrusion detection systems, based on beam towers.

Advanced video analytics optimise the efficiency of the installed security system and allow us to detect intrusions in controlled spaces, before damage or loss occurs. Video analysis is based on software installed on hardware equipment that allows autonomous, advanced real-time analysis of images that are being captured by the cameras. Then a camera ceases to be a passive part of the security system to detect suspicious events and to trigger the planned actions.

Tempos Analytics offers solutions that are compatible with the main VMS on the market, as well as with visual, thermal and dual cameras. Especially noteworthy is the possibility of combining intelligent video analysis with existing perimeter system detectors, as well as the advantage of being able to choose between various types of hardware depending on the needs and requirements of the project. The flexibility of the configuration and licences combination facilitates the creation of much more intuitive, accurate and automated surveillance systems. In addition, number plate recognition licences for parking management or access control can be added to the same hardware.

Other sensors

Depending on the particularities of the site to be protected, the security system may incorporate other outdoor and indoor sensors to complement the protection adding further functionality and detection zones. For example, PIR detectors can de used to detect intrusión, turn/ switch cameras or actívate alarms.

During last month we had been attending the virtual IFSEC International Connect 2021 that took place alongside FIREX International (fire safety), Safety & Health Expo, Intelligent Buildings, Workplace Wellbeing Show and Facilities Show (facilities management). We especially enjoyed the conference sessions about Intrusion Detection, Video Surveillance and Perimeter Protection as well as the discussions on the questions sent by professionals.

The future of intruder detection and alarms – Challenges, opportunities and trends

This session had experienced professionals from different companies as speakers. They spoke about the transformation of the intruder alarm system from the traditional plain signaling device to a much more interractive systems that give more detailed and accurate information to the end user and the installer, but also better remote control options.

The discussion covered some current threats, the areas where growth is expected such as small shops, restaurants, residential areas, office spaces and all the healthcare and other facilities that have very obsolete security systems. When it comes to IP and cloud-based products and systems, they are more and more accepted now, but it is important to realise that as soon as you are connected, you are exposed and should run checks and diagnostics on a daily basis.

What about integrated systems for intruder detection and alarms, while a simple PIR detector can provide important data, if you have another layer such as video analytics systems, you gain a more complete picture. So you can add more sensors and analytics to provide a much better decision making proccess, including data from IoT (Internet of Things) devices.

Commenting on the residential sector, vendors say they notice a growing demand for ‘smart home’ products and at the same time that remote access from homeowners is also becoming a requirement.

Standards have to be adapted and brought closer to the customer’s needs, following the trends of the market, even being proactive to keep ut with the upcoming demands.

On the other hand, traditional security supplier and installer market has an opportunity to promote professionalism and build reputational trust with consumers.

The different perspectives of the participants allowed us to assemble a complete picture of what can be achieved and to better understand where trends and common challenges in the security sector converge.

Supporting Analytics with Standards

ONVIF provided an overview on the types of metadata and how they can be communicated to the analytics systems. For example, event handling interfaces should be used for licence plate recognition, access control to parking lots and even for IoT systems (triggering a thermostat, alert, etc.).

Analytic metadata can be used for sending data between IP devices such as cameras and Video Management Software, Network video recorder, Server-based service or Cloud-based service. There are different type of metadata, it could be geolocation, licence plate number, etc. and it can be visually displayed to help security professionals or even for forensic search.

Compatibility not only makes integrations possible and much simpler, but also facilitates the creation of more complex systems.

Because there are a wider variety of devices producing and consuming data, we have to do more and in order to do that it is important to have and to follow specific directives for security. Standards will help to have increased interoperability of IP cameras or analytics with video management systems as well as simplify the integration with IoT systems.

The future of video surveillance in security – Challenges, opportunities and trends

The maturity of the technology reaches certain level as well as the capabilities of the devices, that gives a possibility AI can grow and now it is boosting analytics. COVID-19 pandemic has demostrated the imprtance of AI and Deep Learning. New technologies inlcuding facial recognition are becoming standardised, even how to install it and they are now very useful for the police, for example.

For installers, it depends of the size of the company, but if it is a big company they have to answer all the questions about the new applications and technoligies they had heard about. Education is key to this. The challenge for integrators and installers is to keep up with new developments.

For video surveillance, If we apply ethics with the end-user in mind, we can develop trusted technologies and there are a lot of guiadance available about privacy. Technology is not harmful, it usege can be, if we are not careful, but we often use it to do good and it contributes to the greater good avery day. The way how we deal with the information of any analytics is extremely important.

Manufactures hace to keep involved in the proccess to be able to perform checks of all the proccesses that are run automatically. Humans are still the ones making the decision, even for AI.

As more attack happen, because we are more moving to digital systems, everybody in the supply chain have to make sure their part in keeping the system secure is done. The equipment has to be design, installed and configurated as secure. Manufactures have to be aware if there are security breaches. If you are able to introduce a weakness to one point it would create a weakness for the whole chain. The responsabilityshouldn’t be left to the installers and integrators.

The integration of different between security devices, several kind of technologies or applications makes important the use of open protocols. The flexibilty of the network depends on that and there are fantastic opportunities are becoming available.

Protecting cities and public spaces – Connecting the assets

It is amazing how the world is changing, developing the concept of smart buildings, security integrations in the cities and how everything is expanding into more digitised environments.

Smart cities are facing challenging threats. Some of the most common vulnerabilities for them take place in code libraries, vendor application code, technolgogy standards and protocols, configuration and installation. The manegament of devices, connections and systems could also add vulnerabilities. When management staff is tricking the system it also makes them more vulnerable. The volume of data and the number of data collection practices of vendors and facilities make it more difficult to keep the security under control.

There is a need of effective overall governance of the Smart Cities which isn’t separate from infrastructure management. Some times the management of the security is only focused on citizen benefits without taking into account the skills required to manage the complete project. It is important to provide complete situational awareness to manage threats and to help vendors to promote security products.

New emerging technologies such as 5G, edge, AI, blogchain, drones add additional threats needs to be known better and standardised.

The integration has to include everyone at every level, starting with developers writing code. While new vulnerabilities emerge, integration also provides us with tools to better monitor and control processes.

If we are looking to smart cities to improve the life of the citizens, part of that life is their ciberlife. If parking management, booking a restaurant, weather information, etc. are connected, the ciber attacks are going to affect the happiness of the citizens, so we need to broaden the approach to happiness and to think about the complete health and happiness.

New technologies and physical security procedures has to converge to combat emerging threats.

Over the last decade, solar energy has experienced a significant average annual growth rate, whilst cost of solar panels and installation has dropped.

Solar farms are systems of solar photovoltaic panels that often cover large areas of land in rural areas, which makes essential to place effective perimeter protection. The Company GJD was commissioned to manufacture reliable security lighting to work in conjunction with the video surveillance system at a solar farm in Cambridgeshire to provide optimum security.

The farm required an intelligent detection lighting and video surveillance solution for a 13MW PV installation. Key specifications for the project included reliable security lighting, even in adverse weather conditions, precisely angled lighting and up to 95 metres lighting range. Given the type of the project, it was also very important that the lighting selected had very low energy consumption without compromising on quality or efficiency.

GJD worked closely with AGE CCTV Systems and the solar park project manager to select the most suitable security lighting. After careful consideration it was decided that the Infra-Red Clarius® IM illuminator was the perfect lighting solution as it is specifically designed to provide world class leading performance, long lifetime and ultra-low maintenance.

The director of AGE CCTV Systems Gary Whiteman commented: “AGE choose Clarius® LED illuminators from GJD to complement our CCTV system as it provides competitively priced, high performance LED lighting in a rural environment “.

Combining surface mount LEDs with enhanced optical output and excellent reliability, the Infra-Red Clarius® IM illuminator enables high quality night-time images and works in conjunction with black and white or day and night cameras to emit light invisible to the human eye, but fully visible to the video surveillance camera. Each unit is installed with integrated control circuitry to carefully control the LED output, so it emits a uniform illumination for the solar farm and it is designed to have an operational lifetime of over 10 years.

Today’s video surveillance systems go beyond cameras. But many of them are not taking advantage of the benefits of quality LED lighting and/or an intelligent video analytics system. Relying on existing facility lighting can lead to an unacceptable number of false alarms. In contrast, using quality LED lighting not only results in huge energy savings, reduced heat and maintenance, but also more accurate light reproduction.

Since a video surveillance device depends on reflected light, surfaces that have a higher reflection coefficient will allow the device to display images better. More light is needed to reproduce quality images near dark surfaces (e.g. asphalt) than to lighter surfaces (concrete). It is highly recommended to replace old lighting with LEDs and depending on the type of cameras being used, white light or infrared LED illuminators can be added.

GJD’s Clarius infrared LED illuminators, marketed by Bunker Seguridad Electrónica S.L., work in conjunction with black and white or day and night cameras. Their advanced technology provides uniform and constant illumination, maximising camera performance and ensuring high quality images. In addition, they have a long service life and very low maintenance.

Elliptical beam profiles allow more light to be delivered to the area where it is needed, so distances can be extended and the waste of light minimised. The system also helps to avoid overexposure of foreground objects. The interchangeable lens diffuser kit allows the user to quickly and easily modify the illuminator’s field of view to suit the camera.

The Clarius® Plus IP is a high performance infrared illuminator incorporating the latest surface mount LEDs with enhanced optical output and exceptional reliability. The night-time images obtained with such assistance are of high sharpness and quality, while the devices hardly suffer any changes over time, thanks to the CleanLITE® technology of the lens coating that provides self-cleaning and improves the device’s resistance.

The images captured and recorded by a camera in a well-lit environment are truly extraordinary. On the other hand, LED illuminators are often used to deter intruders before they attempt to access to a protected site.

Another important part of an effective video surveillance system is intelligent video analytics that can be used to reduce false alarms, make detection more automatic and intuitive, and facilitate the work of security professionals. It’s about getting the right information that allows you to act before incidents or losses occur.

Over the years, numerous studies have examined the effectiveness of individuals monitoring multiple video screens. The results indicate that alertness and concentration are reduced after more than 15 minutes of continuous monitoring. The use of advanced video analytics algorithms makes the video surveillance system more effective and adds automatic real-time actions. When choosing a suitable security system, it is often necessary to take into account the existing detectors in the perimeter detection system.

The solutions that we recommend are those of the Tempos Analytics brand, which are configured in a very intuitive way to adapt to different applications and sites and at the same time complete the system of warnings and actions. They include the possibility of interacting with the detectors of your perimeter system, either through IP OPTEX integration or through I/O modules.

Both, LED illuminators and video analysis systems with advanced algorithms can significantly improve the detection of a video surveillance system and reduce false alarms.

Stonehenge, located in Wiltshire, England, is one of the most fascinating and fabulous megalithic monuments in the world. It is made of large sandstone stones weighing up to 25 tonnes, recently identified as coming from the West Woods, located 25 to 30 kilometres north of the monument.

This is a very important tourist complex that clearly needs to be protected from vandalism in order to ensure its perfect preservation for as long as possible.

So, in early 2013, Wessex Fire and Security was responsible for project managing the supply, installation and commissioning of the fire and security systems for the new Stonehenge visitor centre. Three buildings comprised the new Stonehenge facility: the main visitor centre, an ancillary building (for all plant, vehicles and machinery) and a security centre/post (the old visitor centre).

Stonehenge required a sophisticated, high-end perimeter detection and security system.

GJD worked closely with Wessex Fire and Security to manufacture and install the new security system for the Stonehenge site.

The use of GJD’s Clarius® infrared LED illuminators fulfilled an important requirement for the project, as verification of the process was carried out using a video analysis system. It was therefore necessary to separate the cameras from the infrared sources to minimise the attraction of the insects to the cameras. Different alternatives were studied and finally GJD was chosen because of its quality and previous experience.

Stonehenge required a sophisticated, high-end perimeter detection & security system and Clarius infrared illuminators were perfect for these needs as they work in conjunction with black and white cameras, day and night, providing a light that is invisible to the human eye, but fully visible to the CCTV camera.

If you are interested in finding out more about Clarius illuminators, please contact us.

An agreement between Bunker Seguridad Electrónica S.L. and Tempos Analytics

Tempos Analytics, a recent Spanish brand, dedicated to the creation of intelligent solutions for video analysis, has reached a distribution agreement with Bunker Seguridad Electrónica S.L. for their commercialization.

These solutions are based on high performance software and available in various hardware formats that adapt to different installation requirements and functional needs. The real-time video analysis software is perfect for both, Perimeter Security and Licence Plate Recognition in stationary or moving vehicles. It combines simplicity of configuration with powerful algorithms aimed at reducing false alarms and intelligent detection, compatible with visual, thermal and dual cameras and with the main VMS on the market.

Tempos Analytics is capable of converting a system of cameras and security sensors into an intelligent and flexible detection system, processing and converting images into relevant data, very easy to interpret by a security professional, helping him to discriminate an intrusion from any other event, either using his own internal logic, supporting the physical detection of external sensors with image analysis or showing in a “visible” image the detection made by a thermal camera.

The advanced algorithms used by this software provide a wide range of options when it comes to customizing the analysis and the actions to be taken if certain events occur or suspicious behavior appears.

In addition, it allows the establishment of periodic calendars and tasks, providing greater flexibility to the video verification system. In these cases, an alarm can be activated, lights can be turned on, immediate warning can be given automatically, a barrier can be lifted, etc. The configuration is easy and intuitive.

Tempos Analytics provides new features in the detection and tracking of objects in real time, the optimisation of video monitoring, automatic number plate recognition and vehicle access control, as well as the ability to integrate with existing systems and devices.

The distribution agreement with Bunker Seguridad Electrónica, makes it a reliable, renewed and quality commitment.

The world today is facing significant security challenges. Capturing real-time, high-definition video images is now the easy part; creating complex, multi-camera transmission systems and bringing that video to a CMS is the real challenge. Wireless video surveillance systems are an increasingly common tool used for protection and law enforcement. This is due to their reliability, ease of covering large distances, higher data transfer rates, etc.

How to create a more efficient and stable Video Surveillance System with KBC Networks’ Wireless Solutions

KBC Networks transmission systems provide stable and secure wireless connections. They use MIMO technology to optimize the connection and improve audio and video reception. Images transmitted to the control center can be viewed in real time on site and/or be retransmitted to other remote locations.

For a better adaptation to the specific needs of each installation, KBC Networks has created three families: WES3 STANDARD, WES3HTG and WES3HTG EXP, configurable as point to point, point to multipoint, client and server. All solutions work in 5GHz (license free), covering distances of up to 5km.

Individual characteristics of each family

WES3 STANDARD: replaces the WESII model. It has throughput of up to 99Mbps.

WES3HTG: high power and throughput of up to 650Mbps. Thanks to MIMO technology we will have an aggregate data throughput of 1.3Gbps.

WES3HTG EXP: This is the WES3HTG model with an explosion-proof cover.

All wireless solutions support Power over Ethernet (PoE) in order to facilitate an easy deployment and management of surveillance cameras or other compatible devices.

Each model can be configured with 5, 9 and 17dBi antennas, thus adapting to any type of installation. The use of antennas is highly recommended for all places where it is not desirable, appropriate, or possible to use cabling for communications.

Thanks to the fact that KBC’s systems are completely reliable, they guarantee their correct funcioning in high security installations.

If you need a fast, simple data transmission system that covers large distances without having to deploy cables, please contact us.
