The wireless transmission solution system used in the city of Montebello (California) belongs to the prestigious KBC Networks brand, distributed by Bunker Seguridad.
The need arose when the city of Montebello (California) faced serious problems with vandalism and graffiti in its central business district and surrounding public parks. City officials feared that the vandalism was seriously damaging business activity as well as the quality of life for local residents and workers.
To address the problem, it was decided that it was time to implement a video surveillance system. The city of Montebello needed more than a standard surveillance system. The goal was to develop a system with a special audio sensor that could detect the sound produced when the aerosol spray leaves the spray can, allowing the nearest camera to respond by focusing on the offender and generating a time and date stamped image of the offender.
For the system to work, a flexible transmission system had to be deployed that would allow the city to place cameras in strategic locations and carry the Ethernet IP traffic properly from all the cameras to the end of the system. A point-to-point wireless Ethernet system was deployed using unlicensed frequencies in the 5.8 MHz band. The wireless cameras have a transmission range of 0,8 to 3,2 km, depending on the environment.
Considering both the ability to place the cameras where they were needed, and the cost benefit of not having to dig up the streets to install the cable, the KBC Networks wireless Ethernet system provided a solution that delivered maximum performance and a quick return on investment for the city.
The cameras were installed in less than a day. The system, configured in a point-to-point configuration, had no engineering failures. The performance of the wireless system has been exceptional ever since, with a considerable drop in incidents.
